One-day seminar CODATU – CNAM in Paris – « Climate change: A common opportunity to transform urban transport »

The
CNAM and CODATU are pleased to invite you to the one-day seminar that will be held Tuesday, October the 14th at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris about:

“Climate change: a common opportunity to transform urban transport”

In December 2015, France is hosting the twenty-first Conference of the Parties (COP21) during which the international negotiations should lead to the signature of a new international agreement in replacement to the Kyoto Protocol for the post-2020 period. A new binding agreement associating the entire signatory States of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on the mitigation of global greenhouse gas emissions.

This one-day seminar will show the role that urban transport can play in the fight against climate change and how it could become a vehicle for structuring a sustainable city. It also aims to mobilize the public decision-makers and stakeholders on the perspectives of voluntary commitments before 2020 so they will be included as efforts on the “positive agenda”.

A high level meeting that joins international climate change agenda

In September 2014, Ban ki-Moon, General-Secretary of the UN, is organizing a Climate summit that aims to reinforce the State’s political willing to commit on a new binding agreement. This summit will prepare the discussions to the international negotiations that will take place in Lima (Peru) in December during the COP20. The stakes of these two meetings are high since firsts positions might be taken. CODATU and its partners decided to dedicate this journey to the climate change as an opportunity to transform urban public transport between these two events to:

– Remind the role that can be played by urban transport in developed countries as in developing countries on the fight against climate change,

– Mobilize the transport stakeholders in France for them to get the fight against global warming as an opportunity to innovate and improve mobility-offering especially in urban areas.

Getting experts together for a sustainable urban mobility

This seminar will be the occasion for decision-makers and experts of transport and climate sectors to meet and renew thinking on climate change stakes at local level and to analyze the economic and social prosperity opportunities that the transformation of the mobility model can bring for, both, North and South cities.

The program of this one-day seminar proposes round tables to present and discuss the main stakes of urban mobility in the fight against climate change. Also, there will be various workshops aiming to show what kind of transformation is possible on transport sector to reach the effective sustainability of the system.

Tribute to Jean-Claude ZIV

This journey will also be the occasion to pay tribute to one of CODATU founders and former vice-president of the CANM, Jean-Claude ZIV, who passed away in 2013. At that time he was general-secretary of CODATU and chair professor on Transport and Logistics at the CNAM.
