A look back at the “Leaders in the modernisation of paratransit” training course in Madagascar
From 13 to 15 November 2023, CODATU organised a training course for all those involved in mobility in Madagascar. The aim was to professionalise paratransit in Antananarivo.
The session was led by the CODATU team: Xavier Godard, Jean-Jacques Helluin and Charles Rakotonirina, with support from the local branch: Karine Andriamiraho and Rojo Andrianampoina.
Over the course of the 3 days, a number of topics were covered, including: the main characteristics of paratransit, the governance of mobility in Antananarivo, the main stages of reform in the paratransit sector, the pillars of intermodality and their implementation in Madagascar, optimising a minibus service, ticketing, and the tax and accounting aspects of operating taxi be. These training sessions also provided an opportunity to analyse public policies on public transport and the integration of paratransit around the world, particularly through case studies of Dakar and Kigali.
Following the course, a satisfaction survey was carried out. It revealed a high level of satisfaction among the various participants, who recognised that the content was operational and met their expectations.
This training course, which is original in its format, is intended to be carried out in many other towns where paratransit is important, and can be adapted to suit local contexts and target audiences.
