Survey conducted from August to October 2017 via a form to fill in the CODATU website
The Community of Practice for Sustainable Urban Transport (CoP) aims to highlight the events and projects carried out since 2010 as part of the CMI program on Sustainable Urban Transport led by AFD, CODATU and CEREMA, which generated a unique network of actors in the field of urban mobility in the Mediterranean.
In this context, a survey of careers of decision-makers, high-level technicians and experts who participated in the LUTP training, was conducted between August and October 2017, in order to understand career trajectories, but also to identify new profiles and job opportunities that any new transportation project can create. The information collected is also intended to be used to improve future LUTP training.

With 17 respondents, the survey is based on a significant amount of data with a representativeness of 13.5% of the total number of training registrants between 2013 and 2016 (126 participants in LUTP training between 2013 and 2016). The resulting conclusions may be useful and relevant for improving future LUTP training sessions.
It is also observed that it was mainly men who responded to the survey, accordingly to the distribution generally observed during LUTP training sessions, during which women still remain in the minority. Indeed, 82% of respondents are men, while 18% are women.
The average age is also displayed at almost 50 years old (with a minimum of 31 years and a maximum of 65 years).

Nearly half of the respondents live in Morocco, while the second half come from Senegal, Belgium, and Cameroon.

The majority of respondents followed the LUTP training in 2013 (nearly 60%), among which a little more than half in Marseille, and the rest in Rabat. The others come from the 2014, 2015 and 2016 training courses in Marseille, Addis Ababa and Dakar, respectively.

Of the total respondents, 8 people – nearly half of the respondents – are in a new position since their participation in LUTP training, among which 5 people, or 63% of them, believe that LUTP training has role in this shift, reflecting the effective and positive impact of the training on the careers of the participants.
In addition, 94% of all respondents say they are satisfied with the quality and usefulness of LUTP training, given what it has brought to their careers and skills.

Among the respondents, there are 6 Service Managers, more than one third of the respondents. 3 people also hold high responsibilities, on functions of General Director and President. In addition, it is noted that all the participants are indeed decision-makers, high-level technicians and experts in the field of transport and mobility.

The vast majority of respondents occupy their positions within a public structure: local authority, ministry, planning agency, university. Only 3 people come from private structures.
Evaluation of LUTP training by its participants
Respondents agree on the usefulness of the training, in particular because it has allowed them to improve their knowledge of transport and mobility, while ensuring an openness to a transversal and strategic vision of this field. expertise, emphasizing the importance of an integrated approach between transport and urban planning, and the challenges of mobility. All the respondents also underline that this training allows for a quality exchange and a sharing of experiences, which leads both to highlight the good practices while analyzing the reasons for the failures in a constructive way, and that it also leads, through technical visits, to open up to other ways of doing abroad.
Among the respondents, one person regrets, however, that the diploma issued at the end of the training has no academic equivalent that allows it to be recognized in his country, although the training has been useful to him in the reinforcement of his competences.
Several suggestions were also made by all respondents in view of future LUTP training, including:
– to integrate in the training a component on the creation and the management of an observatory of mobility, a component on SUMPs (realization of the technical studies, evaluation, legal dimension), a component on the intercommunality, a component on the financial arrangement and the search for financing of public transport projects
– create a platform dedicated to LUTP training allowing participants to keep in touch and exchange with each other
– increase the duration of the training and plan further field visits
– to ensure the recognition of the diploma in the countries of all the participants
