Indian delegation in Lyon and Paris
At the end of September 2024, CODATU organised a study visit to Lyon and Paris for an Indian delegation made up of members of GMRC (Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation), MAHA Metro, KMRL (Kochi Metro Rail Limited) and Surat Municipal Corporation.
This study visit, co-organised by CODATU and Expertise France with the financial support of the Agence Française de Développement and MobiliseYourCity, focused on multimodal integration and the financing of urban transport.
In Lyon, an introductory session with the GART presented the institutional and regulatory framework of the French transport sector and the particularities of urban transport financing in France. The SYTRAL Mobilités teams had a rich exchange with the delegation on the role of the AOM, the definition of a fare policy, as well as the multimodal integration strategy and its operationalisation.
One of the subjects of interest to the delegation was TOD (Transit Oriented Development), and the visit continued at La Soie, with an introduction by the Maison du Projet ‘Carré de Soie‘ to the Multimodal Interchange Hub and the development of the area it serves. Thanks to Keolis Lyon, the delegation was also able to visit the metro maintenance centre, as well as the Part-Dieu, Oullins and Hôpital Lyon Sud Multimodal Interchange Hubs. Of particular interest was the observation of multimodal integration, and in particular the link with park-and-ride facilities.
In Paris, the Indian delegation met a number of key players in the sector, including IDFM – Ile de-France Mobilités, RATP Solutions Ville, the Agence Française de Développement and members of the CODATU Business Club. Teams from Société du Grand Paris, Richez Associés and EGIS were on hand to take visitors on a tour of several emblematic sites of the Grand Paris Express: the ‘La Fabrique du Métro’ exhibition, the construction site of the future Massy Palaiseau station on line 18, and a behind-the-scenes look at the brand new St Denis Pleyel station (line 14), which will also eventually house lines 15 and 16.
The visit ended with a sightseeing tour on an electric scooter.
This study visit to France provided a wealth of information for the delegation, whose structures are responsible for rolling out new metro lines and operating existing lines in various cities in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Kerala.
We would like to thank all our partners for their warm welcome and for the quality of the information shared.
