Mobility diagnostic mission by the CODATU Madagascar team to the Antsirabe Urban Community
From 28 October to 1 November 2024, the CODATU team from Madagascar carried out a diagnostic mission on urban mobility in Antsirabe. The aim of the mission was to identify possible projects to improve urban mobility in the city.
Over the course of a few days, CODATU had the opportunity to talk to a number of players in the transport sector in the town. These included
– the public authorities, including the technical managers of the Antsirabe Urban Commune
– the head of the Vakinankaratra Land Transport Agency (ATT)
– the President of the Union of Transport Cooperatives of the Vakinankaratra Region (UCTRV)
– some presidents of bus cooperatives
– some owners of cyclo-pousses, pousse-pousses and Kinga (local name for tuctucs).
These interactions, combined with observations and investigations in the field, enabled us to carry out this diagnostic mission, gain a better understanding of how mobility works and identify the needs in terms of mobility in the commune.
At the same time, the mission is raising the municipality’s awareness of the benefits of joining the ‘MobiliseYourCity’ programme, an initiative that could support Antsirabe in structuring sustainable mobility policies.
