MTC-AFD-Codatu technical cooperation in Peru: the cycle of decentralised capacity-building workshops on urban mobility planning comes to an end in Huancayo

On 21 and 22 November 2024, the ‘Central macro-regional workshop’ was held, the last in a series of 4 decentralised events bringing together local government representatives from the various macro-regions of Peru.

Once again, this initiative focused on the development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs). On the one hand, the theoretical principles of urban planning and mobility were presented, and on the other, practical activities were organised to familiarise participants with the different phases, stages and key milestones involved in drawing up such a planning tool.

The discussions raised the key challenges for promoting reform processes and improvements in the mobility sector at local level, in an integrated manner and in line with the city’s urban development.

In addition, the training was particularly appreciated by the technical teams from the Provincial Municipality of Huancayo, given that the city has been selected by Promovilidad to benefit from the European Union’s LAIF funds in order to draw up a sustainable urban mobility plan (call for tenders currently underway).

By bringing together representatives from the cities of Huancayo, Huancavelica and Huánuco, this workshop also helped to strengthen the links between the cities in the macro-region, as part of a process of reflection and exchange of best practice in tackling common challenges.

These activities were carried out within the framework of technical cooperation between the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications and Codatu in support of Promovilidad.
