MTC-AFD-CODATU Technical Cooperation: Resilient and sustainable urban transport investment program in intermediate cities in Peru

From February 25th to March 3rd, within the framework of its technical cooperation in Peru, Codatu carried out an institutional mission together with Promovilidad, the French Development Bank (AFD), and the World Bank. The objective was to advance the formulation of the investment program in six intermediate cities in Peru.

This investment program is promoted by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru (MTC). The program is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and has as its specific objectives the improvement of public transport infrastructure with a focus on increasing the level of service provided to users; the improvement of road safety through interventions focused on traffic management systems, traffic calming measures, and intersection redesign measures; and the strengthening of institutional capacities in the six municipalities covered by the program and within the MTC itself.

Within this framework, Jean-Marc Mirailles (Codatu’s sustainable urban mobility expert) participated in three visits in the cities of Cusco, Trujillo, and Ayacucho, during which workshops were organized with municipal officials, as well as field visits. Also, during the same institutional mission, Codatu participated virtually in three other workshops with the municipalities of Chiclayo, Piura, and Arequipa.

The collaborative work between the investment program promoter (MTC), its partners (World Bank, AFD, Codatu), and its beneficiaries allowed progress to be made in identifying and defining the projects to be included in the program’s formulation.
