National Days of Urban Transport in Jordan – A short report
The
National Days for Urban Transport, organized in partnership with AFD, Euromed RRU, the CMI and the CEREMA took place from the 26th to 28th October 2015 at the Jordanian Ministry of Transport in Amman. They stimulated fruitful discussions between the jordanian urban mobility stakeholders at the local and national level and international experts. More than 100 persons attended the event, including local and national decision-makers and experts, representatives from transport operators, funding agencies, NGOs, university professors etc.
The various perspectives brought by the speakers and the followed discussion enabled to bring to light the main challenges to be overcome as well as some stress points to be taken into account: the need for a cross sectoral national strategy for urban mobility and the need for appropriate governance structures; the definition of a relevant institutional framework for urban mobilty improvement in the cities of Irbid and Zarqa, in which mobility represents a crucial issue, as well as the need for strengthening these cities’ capacities for action on the technical, institutional and financial side; the definition of financing models for urban mobility that would be adapted to the Jordanian cities’ needs.
The Minister of Transport who opened and closed the event confirmed her Ministry’s commitment towards the elaboration of a roadmap for a sustainable urban mobility in Jordan, with the support of international partners.
The speakers’ presentations are available below.
A more detailled report of this event will be available early 2016.
