Technical cooperation MTC-AFD-CODATU: Participation in Promovilidad’s internal institutional planning workshop
On Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 February 2024, the CODATU team in Peru took part in the institutional planning workshop organised by Promovilidad. The aim was to review and prioritise the planning of short- and medium-term actions and strategies to promote, in coordination with local governments and with the support of international cooperation, sustainable urban mobility projects and initiatives in the country’s secondary cities.
These two days provided an ideal opportunity for reflection and exchange on the work being developed by Promovilidad. Jean-Marc Mirailles, CODATU’s senior expert, presented the conceptual framework of sustainable urban mobility, and Promovilidad presented the regulatory framework that supports its creation, its field of intervention and its scope of action (in particular, the National Urban Transport Policy – PNTU).
From this starting point, a series of discussions helped to identify possible areas for improvement, both in terms of optimising the work of the technical team (better coordination between departments, definition of monitoring and follow-up processes, etc.) and in terms of prioritising themes and activities in line with the objectives of sustainable urban mobility.
Finally, a practical activity involving the planning of short, medium and long-term actions, based on the objectives and indicators of the PNTU, made it possible to assess the relevance of the indicators in guiding Promovilidad’s work to promote sustainable mobility in secondary towns.
The challenge now is to draw up an overall strategy for institutional reorganisation and a series of concrete proposals for continuing this process.
This support is part of the technical cooperation established between the Agence Française de Développement, CODATU and the Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications, which aims to support Promovilidad’s technical teams and the cities in its field of intervention in the design, development and implementation of projects to improve urban mobility systems.
