The Tunisian Ministry of Transport in the industry 4.0 era

The Director Board Of Administrative Development, Information System and Intelligence Transport (DGDASITI) working under the Tunisian Ministry of Transport actively participate to promote INDUSTRY 4.0 and particularly the one that could be applied to the problematic of mobility. The objective of the ministry is to encourage Tunisian citizens to achieve their projects for the aim to provide a better experience for them. Tunisian society is the most concerned part in terms of mobility because it faces daily transport issues, that’s why we can assume that we understand precisely the challenges. Perhaps we need to find innovative solutions.

In the perspective of Technical assistance, CODATU has participated in collaboration with managers from DGDASITI and SNCFT to Innov’Challenge 2020 event organized by INSAT students. The event has been held on February 26 to find the best fitted solution to the challenge of mobility.

Furthermore, 15 teams have had the choice between 4 main subjects proposed by partners: IBM WATSON, Ernest & Young, Globalnet, Municipality of Ariana and the Ministry of Transport. Each team must present its work in within 5 minutes in front of a concerned jury board.

3 out of 15 team will be working on the subject proposed by the Ministry of Transport which is as follow: “Development and implementation of innovative solutions that can detect biases in railway infrastructure”.

The methodology that must be used is the visual recognition and the capture of vibrations via internet of things (IOT). The objective of this instrument is to help its user to identify biases and to geographically localize them to prevent maintenance. It can be applied to the new RFR of Tunis which constitute the main core of urban transport in the Great Tunis.

The winning teams will receive guidance from an equivalent partner for a duration of 3 month to help with the solution implementation. The purpose of this track approach is to align the technical part and the partner’s need to achieve long term industrialization. That’s the concept of Co-Innovation.

We can note that the problematic of urban mobility also impacts Ernest & young who proposed a subject in which the management of parking spaces was one of the main components. To go further, the challenge illustrates the mobility issues encountered in Tunis whose modal share of private vehicles has grown since the 2000’s, causing marked congestion.
